This is southern Rhône red at its most charming—juicy, peppery, and just rustic enough to keep things interesting. On the nose, it leads with ripe red berries, black cherry, and wild herbs (think garrigue: lavender, thyme, and bay). There's a whisper of cracked pepper and dried rose petals floating above it all.
The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and a juicy core of red plum, raspberry, and cranberry compote. Notes of black olive, tobacco leaf, and warm spice provide savory dimension, while a clean finish keeps you coming back for another sip. It’s both classic and crushable—the kind of red that feels right at home with whatever you’re cooking tonight.
About the Winery
Maison Plantevin is a family-run estate with deep roots in the southern Rhône. Based in the village of Cairanne—now a Cru in its own right—the Plantevin family has been farming vineyards here for generations, quietly honing their craft and building a loyal following for their honest, terroir-driven wines.
The current generation, led by winemaker Laurent Plantevin, brings a thoughtful, down-to-earth approach to winemaking. While the estate embraces modern techniques when useful, their philosophy remains grounded in tradition: respect the land, work by hand, and let the grapes tell the story.
Maison Plantevin’s holdings are spread across several Rhône villages, including Rasteau, Sablet, and Cairanne, each with its own soil profile and microclimate. This diversity allows Laurent to craft blends that express both place and purpose. Farming is done sustainably, with an emphasis on biodiversity and soil health, and all grapes are harvested by hand.
In the cellar, the approach is minimal intervention. Native yeast fermentations and aging in concrete or stainless steel ensure that the wines retain their natural energy and freshness. The result? Reds that are generous but never overdone—wines with soul, spice, and unmistakable southern Rhône character.
From bistro classics to cellar-worthy bottles, Maison Plantevin proves that tradition and accessibility don’t have to be at odds. These are wines made for real life, fragrant, food-friendly, and always a pleasure to drink.
