A highly aromatic Riesling hybrid created in Switzerland in the 1880s, the best Müller Thurgau comes from the Alto Adige and Trentino. With a pale straw yellow color, this wine has an exuberant aroma of lime peel, green apple, pear, and white flowers. Zesty, bright, and dry on the palate, this wine is excellent as a dry aperitif and is especially delicious with cured meats. This wine will also pair exceptionally with light and fresh appetizers like bruschetta, caprese salad and cured meats. For main dishes, grilled seafood, seafood pasta or the Alto Adige specialty, Risotto alla Trentina!
About the Winery
The Alto Adige (or Süd Tyrol, as it’s called by the German-speaking inhabitants) is known for good large, cooperative wineries such as Erste + Neue, which is right in the center of Cladaro, one of the small towns on the “Wine Road” south of Bolzano. “Erste + Neue” means “First + New,” and is the merger of the first co-op cellar in Caldaro—Erste Kellerei, founded in 1900—and the newest co-op—Neue Kellerei, formed after the Alto Adige became a part of Italy after World War I in 1925. The name also reflects a union of tradition and modernity, where the winery combines its historical roots with innovative winemaking techniques. Championing the wines of their region (located at the foothills of the Dolomites and the shores of Lake Caldaro), they have won many awards both abroad and at home, with their white wines being celebrated for their aromatic clarity.
