Pronounced aromas of ripe citrus fruits, such as lemon and lime, along with stone fruits like apricot and peach. A stellar example of aged Riesling, the petrol notes characteristic of the varietal come through, and yet the wine has a lively, refreshing acidity that gives it a bright, vibrant profile. This acidity balances the ripe fruit flavors and provides great structure.
This wine will pair well with grilled or steamed fish, oysters, and shellfish, as well as lightly spiced dishes, especially those featuring ginger or lemongrass (think Asian Cuisine).
About the Winery
Salomon Undhof is one of Austria’s most historic and esteemed wineries, with a rich heritage that dates back to 1792. Located in the Kremstal region along the banks of the Danube River, near the town of Krems, the winery has been run by the Salomon family for over 225 years. Over the centuries, it has earned a reputation for producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines.
Today, the winery is managed by Bert and Gertrud Salomon, who are part of the eighth generation of Salomons to run the estate. They have expanded the family's winemaking operations to include vineyards in Australia, but the heart of their winemaking remains in Austria.
P.S. The 2018 Riesling Terrassen has the potential to age beautifully over the next 5 to 10 years. Over time, the wine will likely develop more complex tertiary flavors, such as honey, petrol, and further minerality, while maintaining its core fruit character.
