Pale straw color, with notes of green (green apple, grass). Lively and fresh with medium plus acidity. Fruit sensations of lemon, pear, melon and grapefruit are well integrated with the firm structure of the wine, and there is a captivating wet-stone energy, as though scooped out of a rushing mountain stream with a tin cup.
About the Winery
The Cieck Estate was founded in 1985 by Remo Falconieri in Aglié, just a few kilometers from San Giorgio. It has 13 hectares of vines in San Giorgio Canavese, in the Piedmont region, halfway between the cities of Turin and Ivrea. A historic white grape variety from the Canavese region, Erbaluce, makes up the majority of the harvest. This location is unique due to the vineyard's usage of the "pergola" grape training system, which produces substantial canopies. To pick the grapes using this approach, the winemakers must reach up. Thanks to the efforts of Cieck Winery, Erbaluce earned its own DOCG status in 2010.
Remo’s daughter Lia, and Domenico Caretto now run the winery. Domenico is the agronomist, and he takes care of the vineyards and the cellar; Lia handles administration, the commercial side of things, and communication; Remo, the founder of the estate, at the age of 80-plus, is the first to arrive in the cellar every morning at 8 o’clock.
Cieck’s new winery was built in 2013 in the heart of the Erbaluce vineyards, in a vineyard already owned by the estate in San Giorgio Canavese. A modern, technological project built to meet the estate’s new needs, the winery is also sustainable: solar panels for the production of hot water, a plant-based purification system for the treatment of wastewater in the cellar, and the recycling of rainwater for reuse to clean farm vehicles.
