The 2022 Barbarossa is a vibrant and approachable biodynamic red wine that beautifully expresses the terroir of the Veneto. On the nose, it bursts with juicy red fruits, offering aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, and wild strawberries, accompanied by subtle floral and earthy undertones.

The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with bright acidity enhancing the lively fruit character. Crunchy red berry flavors mingle with hints of spice and a touch of stemminess, adding depth and intrigue. A distinct mineral backbone lends structure, while a zesty, almost citrus-like acidity keeps the wine energetic and highly drinkable.

The finish is clean, refreshing, and persistent, making it an excellent companion for casual meals in Italy. Overall, it’s a beautifully balanced, fruit-forward red with a natural vibrancy that makes it easy to enjoy.

About the Winery

In the serene landscapes of Madonna di Lonigo, near Vicenza, Marco "Barba" discovered his passion for biodynamic agriculture and the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. After working as a carpenter, he ventured to Switzerland's Jura canton to immerse himself in shepherding and farming. Returning to Veneto in 2015, Marco collaborated with his friend Stefano Menti at the Menti family winery. In his spare time, he began cultivating grapes from neglected vineyards owned by elderly widows in his hometown, gradually expanding his efforts.

By 2018, Marco and a group of like-minded friends, known as the "Barbaboyz," officially launched the Marcobarba project. Their mission was to produce authentic and unpretentious wines from pure, biodynamically farmed grapes. They revitalized small, abandoned vineyards between the white sedimentary soils of Lonigo and the dark volcanic terrains of Gambellara. Each year, from these carefully tended vines, they produce approximately 40,000 bottles, including fizzy whites, still whites, reds, and grappa.

The Marcobarba wines, much like Marco himself, are described as coarse and irreverent, yet with a big heart, reflecting their straightforward and genuine nature.
