Grattamacco’s 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is a masterclass in coastal Tuscan polish—a supple blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese that captures both power and poise. Aromas of wild blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum glide from the glass, framed by hints of dried herbs, graphite, and a whisper of sea breeze. On the palate, it’s sleek and harmonious, with velvety tannins, refined oak, and a long, savory finish that lingers on notes of dark fruit and Mediterranean spice.
This is the kind of wine that bridges worlds: structured enough for steak or lamb, yet graceful enough to elevate a simple bowl of mushroom risotto. A beautiful introduction to the Grattamacco style—and a reminder that Bolgheri’s magic lies in its balance between sun, soil, and sea.
About the Winery
Perched on a ridge between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, Grattamacco is one of Tuscany’s original coastal pioneers. Founded in 1977, it was only the second winery established in the now-famous Bolgheri appellation, and it remains a quiet icon of elegance amid the Super Tuscan legends. The estate’s vineyards sit about 100 meters above sea level, where Mediterranean breezes meet mineral-rich marl and limestone soils—ideal conditions for ripening Bordeaux varieties while preserving freshness. Grattamacco farms organically and works by hand, crafting wines that balance coastal generosity with restraint. Fermentations are spontaneous, oak aging is thoughtful, and every decision is guided by respect for terroir and time.
