In the glass, the wine is pale straw-yellow with greenish reflections, indicating vibrancy and freshness. The first thing you may notice when you smell it is the fragrant notes of flowers. White flowers and acacia are accompanied by citrus, specifically lemon and grapefruit and followed by green apple and white peach. Because of the maturation on the lees, this wine has an elegant and delicate texture. Expect flavors of lemon and lime intertwined with juicy pear and apricot. You may discover a subtle saline minerality to the wine, which adds to its balance and sophistication (and why this wine pairs so well with seafood!) The wine is lively, aromatic, and well-balanced, making it an excellent example of the Favorita grape and the Langhe region's unique terroir.

*Favorita is very closely related to Vermentino, but not exactly the same, and is considered native to the Piedmont region of Italy.

Pairing Ideas

With its vibrant acidity and light body, this wine complements dishes such as grilled fish, seafood pasta, soft cheeses like mozzarella, or even a light salad.

Terroir

The Roero district is characterized by sandy soils with a high percentage of calcareous content (sea shells!), derived from ancient marine deposits. These soils are light and well-draining, ideal for producing wines with bright acidity and aromatic intensity.

Vine age

30 years on average

Vinification

  • Harvested by hand

  • Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at approximately 16°C

  • The wine matures on its fine lees for ~3 months in stainless steel tanks

About the Winery

Cantina Tibaldi is a family-owned winery located in Pocapaglia, within the Roero district of Piedmont, Italy. The estate spans over three hills—Mormore, Bricco della Passere, and Coste Anforiano—encompassing 20 acres of vineyards at approximately 820 feet above sea level. The vines have an average age of 30 years.

The winery is managed by sisters Monica and Daniela Tibaldi, who represent the fourth generation of their family in viticulture. They took over the family business in 2014, bringing a modern perspective while honoring traditional practices. Their father, Stefano, and grandfather, Tunin, were instrumental in passing down their passion and expertise.

Monica and Daniela oversee the entire wine production process, from vineyard management to marketing. Their commitment to quality is evident in their hands-on approach and dedication to sustainable practices. The sisters' dynamic partnership and innovative spirit have been recognized widely in the wine community; their video "Vineyards and High Heels" won Wine Spectator's 2017 Video Contest, highlighting their journey and the role of women in winemaking.

Aside from the Langhe Favorita, they also produce Roero Arneis, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Roero DOCG.
