At the sun-dappled meeting point of Provence and the Rhône Valley, the Luberon appellation captures the region’s effortless blend of brightness, fragrance, and charm—and Bonpas has been bottling that spirit for centuries. Their Grande Réserve des Challières 2024 is a luminous white that balances Southern French warmth with mountain-born freshness, delivering elegance without pretense.

A blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Roussanne, this wine opens with soft aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, and citrus blossom, accented by wild thyme and crushed stone. On the palate, it’s both lively and supple, with layers of apricot, lemon curd, and ripe apple carried by a gentle creaminess and a cool, mineral finish. There’s a subtle echo of the Provençal countryside here—lavender, sea salt, and sun-baked limestone, all wrapped in a breeze.

The vineyards of the Luberon sit high in elevation, where clay-limestone soils and the steady Mistral wind preserve vibrancy in the grapes. Bonpas, whose name means “good passage,” crafts this cuvée as a kind of journey in a glass—bright yet grounded, modern yet timeless.

Pair it with herbed roast chicken, creamy pasta with mushrooms and tarragon, or a simple tomato tart, and you’ll understand why Luberon whites have become some of the Rhône’s most quietly thrilling wines. Elegant, textured, and full of Provençal soul—this is sunshine bottled with grace.

About the Winery

Perched at the southern gateway to Avignon, Bonpas has guarded the bridge to Provence since 1318—first as a fortified monastery, and today as a beloved Rhône Valley winery. The name “Bonpas,” short for Bon Passage (“safe passage”), harks back to the monks who once offered weary travelers a refuge along the Durance River.

Centuries later, that same spirit of hospitality endures in the winery’s approach to winemaking. Bonpas specializes in wines that embody the generosity of southern France—sun-kissed, aromatic, and effortlessly drinkable. Their vineyards span some of the Rhône’s most picturesque appellations, from Côtes du Rhône to Ventoux and Luberon, where altitude and limestone soils lend brightness to Mediterranean fruit.

Modern techniques meet ancient terroir here. Grapes are carefully sorted, fermented at cool temperatures to preserve freshness, and aged just long enough to harmonize texture and aroma. The result is a collection of wines that celebrate both tradition and the easy pleasure of a well-made glass—wines meant not for ceremony, but for sharing.

In the Grande Réserve des Challières, Bonpas captures the essence of the Luberon: golden light, herbal hillsides, and the promise of bon passage—a good journey, one sip at a time.
