A true expression of the Chianti hills, Castellare’s 2023 Chianti Classico offers a beautiful harmony of freshness, fruit, and earth. The nose opens with bright aromas of sour cherry, red plum, and violet, layered with subtle notes of tobacco leaf and dry herbs. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and vibrant, framed by polished tannins and a lively backbone of acidity that keeps everything lifted and graceful. The finish hums with flavors of cherry pit, cedar, and a hint of iron minerality—a signature of Castellina’s limestone-rich soils.
This is a classic, food-loving Chianti: equally at home with simple tomato-based pastas as with roasted meats or aged pecorino. It’s a wine that speaks of place and patience, inviting you back for another sip long after the glass is empty.
About the Winery
High in the hills of Castellina in Chianti, Castellare di Castellina stands as one of Tuscany’s great champions of balance—between past and present, vineyard and wild. Formed in the 1970s through the union of five small farms, the estate has become a model for sustainable viticulture. Its terraced vineyards, set between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, are farmed organically and surrounded by native woods that shelter a thriving population of birds and wildlife.
Castellare’s labels, each depicting an endangered Italian bird, are more than a design choice—they reflect the estate’s philosophy of coexistence. The vineyards are managed without chemical herbicides or pesticides, making them a natural sanctuary for avian species that have disappeared from much of the region. In this living ecosystem, Sangioveto (the local Sangiovese clone) and other native grapes express the purity of Chianti Classico’s limestone soils and sunlit slopes. Marrying traditional methods with modern precision, Castellare crafts wines that are vibrant, elegant, and deeply rooted in their environment—a harmonious chorus between nature and nurture.
