Light, lifted, and mineral to its core, this alpine white is a textbook Apremont—bright, fresh, and bracing in all the best ways. Grown in the shadow of Mont Granier on limestone scree and glacial moraine, this 100% Jacquère bottling captures the essence of the French Alps in a single glass. Expect cool notes of pear skin, green apple, and white flowers on the nose, with a palate that delivers stony precision, citrusy acidity, and just enough leesy texture to round things out.

Low in alcohol, high in refreshment, and blessed with a clean, mineral finish, it’s a perfect companion to fondue, trout, or spring vegetables in lemon butter. If you’re craving a wine that feels like mountain air in a bottle—this is it.

About the Winery

Perched on the steep slopes of the Chartreuse foothills, Domaine Marc Portaz is one of Savoie’s quiet gems. The estate sits in the tiny appellation of Apremont, a village shaped—literally—by a massive landslide in 1248 that transformed the landscape and left behind the fractured limestone soils that now define the region’s wines.

Marc Portaz took over his family’s vines in the early 1990s and has been quietly producing crystalline, terroir-driven whites ever since. Farming is thoughtful and traditional, with hand-harvesting on the high-altitude slopes and vinification designed to preserve freshness and minerality. The star grape here is Jacquère, Savoie’s calling card—delicate, citrusy, and low in alcohol, yet full of mountain character.

Wines from Domaine Marc Portaz are a window into the Alps: pure, stony, and refreshingly honest. If you’ve never explored the high-altitude whites of eastern France, this is an excellent place to start.
