2022 Château Mattes-Sabran Corbières “Viala” is a brooding and aromatic red from the heart of Languedoc. A classic blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre, it opens with notes of blackcurrant, wild rosemary, cracked pepper, and a whisper of smoke. The palate is rich and full-bodied yet fresh, with silky tannins wrapping around flavors of ripe blackberry, savory tapenade, and dried herbs. It’s a wine that manages to feel both rustic and refined—a true expression of the Corbières terroir.

Organically farmed on stony soils near the Mediterranean, “Viala” captures the dry heat and wild beauty of southern France. It’s a perfect companion to grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or anything Provençal—think lamb with rosemary, ratatouille, or a hunk of aged sheep’s cheese.

This is the bottle to open when you want a taste of the garrigue—the fragrant Mediterranean scrubland—in all its rugged, sun-baked glory.

About the Winery

Château Mattes-Sabran has deep roots in Languedoc, with a lineage that stretches back to medieval nobility and a landscape shaped by sea breezes and sun-drenched stone. Nestled in the windswept Corbières hills near the Mediterranean coast, this historic estate sits on terrain once traversed by Roman legions and troubadours. Today, it’s home to a modern revival led by a passionate team committed to expressing the rustic elegance and power of Corbières wines.

The vineyards thrive in the hot, dry climate of southern France, where the limestone and schist soils stress the vines just enough to coax out complexity and intensity. Organic practices in the vineyard and a minimalist approach in the cellar yield wines that speak clearly of their place—wines with wild herb aromatics, sun-ripened fruit, and earthy depth.

The “Viala” cuvée is one of the estate’s flagship expressions, named after a favored vineyard parcel. It’s a bold, structured red that honors the tradition of the Corbières appellation while offering a polished, modern edge. Think ancient château charm meets fresh winemaking savvy. In every bottle, Mattes-Sabran offers a sip of Languedoc’s timeless soul—untamed, expressive, and unmistakably southern French.
