Many people think that Nero d’Avola is a big, bold Sicilian wine with a lot of weight and alcohol. That’s because they have never tasted one from Menfi! This wine is feminine and sensual, with a spicy and lively saline character (the vineyard is steps from the sea!) Bright ruby red, its bouquet shows marine aromas, scents of mulberries & raspberries, and a touch of light spices. Fragrant and full on the palate, with soft velvety tannins that shape a vibrant, Mediterranean personality.
About the Winery
Marilena Barbera is a third-generation winemaker from Sicily who produces wine on the Belicello Estate. The estate was founded in the 1920s by her grandfather, Lilly Barbera. Despite her aspirations for a diplomatic career after studying political science, Marilena was drawn back to her family's agricultural business in Sicily. She was captivated by its centenary history and legacy passed down to her by her father and grandfather. Initially focusing on sales and marketing, Marilena began to take a more active role in the winemaking process after her father passed away. Today, Marilena produces her wines in Menfi, Sicily, and believes that there is no better way to represent her land's history, culture, and passion than through wine. In between decanting and bottling, she continues to travel the world to share her wines with others.
