Uva di Troia is an ancient grape, named for the Puglian city of Troia, founded by the hero Diomedes. Used mainly to produce bulk wines in the past, this grape has been found to produce excellent wines when cultivated properly. This wine is full bodied, with aromas of dark cherry, plum, and blackberry fruits with an undertone of licorice. Expect violet floral notes, a hint of spice—black pepper and clove—and a leathery texture. The balanced acidity gives it a pleasant freshness and lift.

Given the robust profile and tannic structure, this wine is well paired with grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, and aged cheese.

About the Winery

The estate is situated in the town of Gravina in Puglia, a historic wine region with ancient winemaking traditions that date back over 2,000 years. The name Botromagno is named after the hill that overlooks the town. Founded in the 1990’s by the D’Agostino Family, they were responsible for revitalizing the wine industry in their region. They remain focused on indigenous grape varieties, like the Nero di Troia, which reflects the historic routes of Puglia, as well as the unique terroir.

Botromagno’s modern winemaking cellar, built in 2004, was the first cellar in Puglia to win ISO 14001 Environmental certification. Its architecture mirrors the local Masseria, or farming complex, built of tuff, a traditional building material in the Murgia area. It was specifically built in a crafts-light industrial area in order to avoid “using up land” and this has in turn facilitated protection of the environment, safe working conditions, business connectivity, and commercial logistics.
