To make Vin Santo, the grapes are harvested by hand and then dried in a vinsantaia on a cane trellis for approximately 4 months. Once the grapes are dried, they are pressed and aged in small neutral wood barrels for 3 to 5 years.

The wine is an intense golden yellow. It has ethereal-alcoholic dried fruits, honey and apricot aromas. Full bodied in taste, its fair volatile acidity makes the sweetness and the freshness combine perfectly. Excellent persistence, complex and harmonic aftertaste.

Vin Santo is truly a meditation wine, but also super delicious with some blue cheese, crunch biscotti, and of course, foie gras!

About the Winery

Villa Artimino is truly an historical site. There is a rich history on this property dating back to the Renaissance period, when ancients such as Galileo & da Vinci once visited. And it is here that Italy’s 1st wine was produced under the DOC rules (which was Carmignano, the answer to a wine-geeky trivia question!) back in 1716.

The farm covers 732 hectares total, making it one of Tuscany’s largest fattorias; 84 of those hectares are planted to vines including local, traditional varietals as well as international varietals. Although Villa Artimino is heavily steeped in tradition, state-of-the-art winemaking machinery & techniques are applied here.
